With sweeping views across ancient olive groves through the Tiber Valley towards the Apennine mountains, the south-facing cottage, featuring a chef’s kitchen, spacious lounge, eco-wood burning fireplace, comfortable air-conditioned bedrooms, landscaped garden, and seasonal saltwater plunge pool, provides the perfect year-round retreat. Whilst also being just a short walk from the centre of lively, Città della Pieve, A charming medieval hilltop town of Etruscan-Roman origins, famed for its red brick palazzos, stunning frescoes, excellent restaurants, and extraordinary annual festivals.
Today home to celebrities, designers, and politicians, the town was also once home to Pietro Vannucci, called “Il Perugino”, master of Raphael, and one of the most important Italian Renaissance painters.
And with a plethora of museums, artisan and boutique shops, an ornate theatre, buzzing cafes, and farm-to-table food stores. Along with cookery schools, wineries, and weekly markets, the town offers something for every discerning traveller. Whilst also being just a short drive from some of Tuscany and Umbria’s most famous hilltop towns, world-class thermal spas, and vineyards.
The cottage and gardens
From the outside, the picturesque cottage made of Città della Pieve’s famed red brick retains its ancient appeal. But the spacious interior, completely renovated in 2022, offers a luxury, open-plan format, making it the perfect place for family or friends to gather, or for a couple’s romantic getaway.
Set over one floor with a full, dine-in chefs’ kitchen, air conditioning, high-speed internet, central heating, and a spacious lounge featuring a Scan, egg-shaped wood burner, the cottage remains appealing year-round. Whilst on summer days, you can also immerse yourselves outdoors in the large, private, landscaped garden with various sunny or shaded seating areas – or enjoy a BBQ and dine al fresco at the large, Travertine-marble table. Whilst from late May to September you can cool off under the solar-powered outdoor shower or take a refreshing dip in the 4×2 above-ground saltwater pool and bask in the sun on your own ‘Pebble beach’.
Other comforts include a modern bathroom with a powerful rain shower, air-conditioned queen and twin bedrooms, with integrated phone charging stations, chestnut blackout shutters, ample closet space, and high-quality Egyptian linens.
Also notable is the elevated terrace garden featuring a birchwood swing seat. The perfect place for either an aperitivo at sunset, or at sunrise for meditative yoga or pilates to the sound of birdsong as the valley awakes.
